i never thought about editing online because i use photoshop. with my husband, the graphic designer, it has been easy to use. but showing my girls the online sites was fun, because they do not always want to spend the time to get to know how to use pshop tools. picasa has become their favorite. jinnifer roach
I haven't had much experience with phot editing software other than Paint Shop Pro. I really want to learn Photshop because it seems to be THE program for editing. But after learning that there are online photo editing tools - I think I'll take a look at those first. For a beginner like myself - they will probably be just what I need to get started. Just recently I was excited to find out about the PDF writers that are available online that a short while ago weren't there. Now I can take my electronic document and send to a printer that will create my PDF file for me. And it is FREE! Just recently I was able to submit a cover letter with a signature all online! What I used to do was type the letter, print it, sign it and mail it. Now I typed the letter, saved it. I wrote my signature on a piece of paper and scanned it. Edited the signature (size it, etc.) and save as bmp. Insert bmp into my cover letter and print to the PDF writer. Attach to email and voila - all completed at home. Maybe everyone does this now - but I was quite excited to be able to do it all from my office at home - and not have to print the letter and go to the post office. Jen Sanders

However, I am excited to learn about these tools and would like to try them in class with students. I just said in another post that I need photo editing software . . .now I know about free online tools such as Picnik, Picasa and others. I look forward to learning more about this! Barb Scullin
Wow! I never knew you could do this much with photo editting! I know how to edit photos on my own computer using software, but I had no idea there were plces out there to help me! Val's reference to 29 Online Photo Editing Websitesseems like a good place to start. I also found a site called picnik where you can edit photos on most of the photosharing sites or from your own computer. Sites like BeFunky and WriteOnIt allow you to get more creative with your pics! I also would like to try the Trading Card and MagMyPic sites. Lori Gulley

Whenever I want to edit my personal photos, I always use Picasa It is free and does an excellent job of cropping, correcting light and color, and gets rid of red eye. You can save your photos by albums as well as give them tags for easy finding or sort them by date and time. I haven't use this site to share my photos although I hear it is possible. Joyce Gruss
If you ever wanted to capture your students' attention try this site. It is located in BigHugeLabs Flickr and is one of the options called Trading Card. You can create a Trading/Pokemon type card featuring your student. They can select background and type in a description of themselves. This would be a great ice-breaker as the year begins as a "getting to know you activity". I made one for my daughter as a Birth Announcement Type. It was then saved to my documents and I emailed one to myself as well. It was quick, easy, and really fun!!! My daughter (age 5) really loved seeing her baby picture as a trading card! I really enjoyed MagMyPic. You can take any photo and put it on the front of a magazine cover. It is so funny and there is over 30 different magazine covers to choose from. I think this would be a funny birthday or graduation idea for someone. It seems very easy to use.

One is shutterfly . I have not used it for classroom, but I can see how the end products from shutterfly might make nice booklets of projects, or a year book of fieldtrips. One that students could use to add autographs of friends. Perhaps an alternative to a more expensive School Yearbook, ( Team Yearbook) Pat Caine- 6th grd, Lang Arts
BeFunky Photo Effects "allow everyday people to easily create photographically rich and artistic results from their digital images without the need for any technical knowledge." These “one-click” photo effects options are perfect for me, and would make it easy for novices. Jane Darrow
Photobucket This is one that I use to edit together photos into slideshows for my livejournal. It has photo effects, but I haven't really tried that. It does have some fun transitions that link the photos together that you create and then embed into another site:)
I had never tried editing my pics online before! I have Adobe Photoshop along with my Kodak software that between those two I have been able to edit my pics on my computer as much as I have wanted. After reading what a lot of people have written I have tried Picasa and enjoyed it. Now that I have read a bunch of these posts, I will be checking out Be Funky and 29 Online Photo Editing Websites along with a few others. Terri Martin
